If you have some extra time in Mumbai, here are a few recommendations to explore! Feel free to coordinate with other guests if you would like to explore together.
Gateway of India
Mumbai’s iconic waterfront arch, right on the harbor in Colaba. A great place to start exploring South Mumbai.
The Taj Mahal Palace
The legendary Taj hotel directly across from the Gateway. Even if you aren’t staying here, it’s worth seeing the beautiful historic building and grand interiors.
Kala Ghoda & Fort
Wander through Mumbai’s historic heart, with beautiful colonial-era architecture, art galleries, cafés, boutiques, and lively streets.
Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST)
One of Mumbai’s most spectacular buildings — a UNESCO World Heritage Site blending Victorian Gothic and traditional Indian architecture.
Marine Drive
Take a stroll along Mumbai’s famous seafront promenade, especially beautiful around sunset and after dark when the lights create the famous “Queen’s Necklace.”
Juhu Beach
A lively Mumbai beach with sunset views, street food, and plenty of people-watching. A fun way to experience a more casual side of the city.
A half-day trip from the Gateway of India
Take a ferry from the Gateway to Elephanta Island to explore these remarkable ancient rock-cut temples, famous for their enormous sculptures of Shiva. The ferry takes about 1 hour each way, so allow roughly 4–5 hours total for the trip.
Tip: Go early in the morning, when it is cooler and less crowded. Weekdays are generally quieter than weekends. There are stairs up to the caves, so comfortable shoes are recommended. The caves are closed on Mondays.
